| Born on the island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands between England and France in October 1933, I have now lived and worked in over 20 countries around the world. I was raised and educated in Canada and in 1950 I followed in my fathers footsteps and joined the British Air Force. In 1952 I met and married the mother of my 6 wonderful children. June came from Leeds in Yorkshire and though our marriage ended by mutual agreement in the 80?s she remains my closest and dearest friend. My children, Shirley - Grandchildren - Trish, Mike & Chris; Gillian - Grandchildren - Neil, Niki,& Sammy; Diana - Granddaughter Jessica; Peter Jr., Robert and Jo Anne - Grandchildren - Timmy,Ashley & Sarah; with the exception of Robert, all live in Australia; as do my 14 grandchildren and my precious great-grandson Ronnie - Thanks Trish!. Shirley, Gillian and Robert were born in England, Diana and Peter Jr. were born on the Island of Malta and Jo Anne joined us in Ireland would you believe. June and I spent 5 years in Ireland prior to moving to Australia in 1972. My present domestic partner is Rose, whom I recently met and enticed away from her native Island home of Malta. Rose, I am delighted to say is now the most important part of my continuing hectic life.I have been truly blessed with the most wonderful partners throughout my life. Elizabeth was a beautiful partner throughout my early stage and Television career. We traveled the world together. She is now married and has two beautiful twin daughters at last contact. Elizabeth was followed by Sheree, one of Australia's top models, and became my TV co-host and stage partner for 5 years. Our last tour included 3 months in Japan and eventually Las Vegas. She too is now married and lives in America. Dixie was with me for two and a half years during my early years getting settled in America. We were married at the Little White Chapel Drive Through wedding chapel in Las Vegas in 1993. I became an American citizen in 2000.In 1996 whilst working with the Hilton Corp. I took a holiday in Guatemala and met Sonya. She joined me in Hong Kong and 18 months later returned to her native Honduras from our home at that time in Spain, just as Hurricane Mitch struck taking over 11,000 in its wake.After a short stay back in Ireland I returned to Las Vegas. This was 1998.Three years ago I tried for the third time to retire and returned to the Island of Malta, where I had spent 5 wonderful years with June at the end of my military career working with the archaeological Dept. of Cambridge University on the excavation of Maltas remarkable Catacombs with Dr. David Trump and the wonderful Fr. | A lifetime of Archaeological research
It was in Malta, where I had spent 5 wonderful years at the end of my military career working with the archaeological Dept. of Cambridge University on the excavation of Malta's remarkable Catacombs with Dr. David Trump and the wonderful Fr. Victor Camilleri who has remained a friend these 50 odd years.
During those 5 years I was privileged to photograph and record all the archaeological sites on the islands of Malta and Gozo, including the amazing G’gantija (3,600 – 3,000 B.C.), the earliest freestanding stone monument built by man. It pre dates the pyramids of Egypt and are older than England’s Stonehenge. I have spent considerable time at Stonehenge in the 50’s and again in 1988. My work for the then Maltese Government Information Department from 1955 – 1960 also included recording all the treasures left by the Knights and displayed in the museums and Churches on the Islands. During my two-year return visit to the Island to write my most recent book “Malta – Mediterranean Jewel”, and complete my degree certification I designed a photo marketing program for introduction at all Malta’s most frequently visited Archaeological sites. I filmed a pilot program at “Ghar Dalam” the cave of Darkness, for my World of Unexplained Mysteries (Malta) television series. My work on the remarkable “Shroud of Turin” Mystery resulted in the re-mastering of my interviews with the Sturp group, researching the results of their investigative study conducted in 80's into the authenticity of this amazing artifact. In my 70 odd years I have had the opportunity to work, visit and write about archaeological sites in China, Cyprus, Australia, Central and South America, Ireland, Great Briton, Spain, Japan, Taiwan, Cambodia, and Malta to name but a few.
During the 80’s, an Exhibition of my replica artifacts from the Louve Museum in Paris, toured Australia and was also used as the basis of my presentation of the Howard Carter Story to Australian High School Students. It has taken me over 50 years to achieve my Doctorate, since my early years with Cambridge’s archaeology team in Malta. Thanks to the internet I was able to acheive a Doctorate (Magna Cum Laude) in Archaeology which I have worked so hard for over the last 4 years. |

It's a Magical Life!
For over 22 years Magic and the performing arts were an important part of my career path. I made my first stage appearance in Canada at the age of 14 years. It wasn’t until I found myself selling Life Insurance in Australia in the early 1970’s that ‘Magic’ entered my life . In order to entertain my prospective clients on Australia’s Military bases I would carry some pocket tricks that I purchased at a local magic shop in Sydney. Within 5 years I was not only the top selling agent in the country writing over 10 million in permanent sums assured, but on my way to a full time career as a professional Magician in the field of Mentalism (Mind Reading). Having watched the amazing Uri Gellar stun audiences around the world I decided to give up a very promising career with the largest shopping mall in the pacific region where I had been appointed Marketing Director to pursue a full time career on stage and Television. Because of my association with Roseland’s Shopping Mall, I developed a program called “ESP that happens to you” and for the next 10 years presented it in Malls and Shopping Centers around the World. My show featured the death defying “bullet catch”– the seemingly impossible feat of catching a bullet between my teeth fired by Elizabeth from a .22 rifle .Over the years 12 entertainers had died performing this ‘trick’. Houdini who had performed the most amazing stunts throughout his career refused to do the bullet catch on the grounds that it was too dangerous. I was injured several times over the years before my last performance of the effect in LasVegas in 1991. In 1990 I was asked to host a children's TV program for Channel 10 in Perth, Western Australia. This program taught children how to make and perform simple magic tricks from everyday available materials. My co-host was Sheree Maurice, one of Australia's leading Models. Sheree became a very important part of my life and for the next 5 years we traveled the world together including an amazing engagement at one of Japan's most exclusive Spar Resorts. After Japan we moved to Las Vegas where we both eventually settled. All together I accomplished three World Tours ending in Japan in 1990. Between tours we would jump aboard a Princess Cruse Liner (P&O) and present my “World Of Unexplained Mysteries” lecture series and a cabaret which were eventually become the basis of my Radio and Television series on three continents. I recorded the last of my TV Mystery series at the “Cave of Darkness – Ghar Dalam”, a 10,000 year old site on the Island of Malta. http://worldofunexplainedmysteries.com .

Radio and Television.
My Radio and Television career started in 1974 when an Australian Television station in a small city south of Sydney offered me the chance to produce and star in my own TV special. I had been performing my “ESP that Happens to You!” cabaret for about a year in a Sydney theatre restaurant and Win 4 T.V. decided to allow me to produce “Beyond Belief” a one hour TV special. I used the name several times over the succeeding years and eventually offered it to Siegfried and Roy, whom I met in Las Vegas in the early 70’s, to name their show at the Stardust Hotel . In 1979 whilst Marketing Director for the Pacific regions largest Shopping Mall – ‘Roselands’, I approached a new Sydney Radio Station 2 WS about my doing a weekly radio program that I wanted to call “Peter J. Shield’s World of Unexplained Mysteries” They were an all music station but liked the idea sufficiently to invite me to produce a series of 5 minute segments for broadcast throughout the day. This series eventually was broadcast for some 20 years over 47 Australian Stations and also in Europe and as a One Hour talk back show on 2CH in Sydney, and 12.30 AM KLAV Las Vegas.
It was during my stint at Sydney's 2CH that I had the opportunity to interview the principal members of the STURP team responsible for the investigative study into the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin. This would have to have been the highlight of my Radio career. A few years ago whilst broadcasting my program from Las Vegas I again had the privilege of speaking to the leading researcher on the shroud, Barry Swartz. Queensland’s SEQ TV invited me to produce a Saturday night prime time half hour series which I did successfully for 6 months. Australia’s No. 1 television show at that time was Channel 9 Sydney’s “Mike Walsh Show”. I became a resident guest on the program for over 5 years. During this time I was honored to co host and guest on numerous Television Programs including “Good Morning Sydney”, Good Morning Perth” and “Pot of Gold” to name but a few. In 1990 I was invited by Channel 10 Perth to host a children’s program that I named “Peter J. Shield’s World of Magical Mysteries”. A show that taught children how to make and perform magic tricks. My co-host was one of Australia’s top models, Sheree Maurice. We remained a team for over 5 years.
It was during my 2CH days on Sydney Radio that Cancer first raised its ugly head. I underwent major surgery for colon cancer and at the time I had embarked on a project that was to cost me everything including the loss of my best friend. The Magic Mortuary Station was a restaurant venture in Sydney that I attempted with John McNally, my then closest friend and one of Irelands most successful singers. We refurbished a number of Railway carriages and turned an old disused railway station into a unique restaurant serving just pancakes! Unfortunately a lack of experience and 18 months of chemotherapy cost us dearly and we took the loss and walked away from the project in 1989. I went to Perth to join Channel 10 and the Australian Fund Raising Council; it was here that I met Sheree.
In more recent times I was for a short period Senior Vice-President of an innovative web based attempt to provide 24 hour Television programming via the web using streaming video. I recorded another 25 “World of Unexplained Vegas Mysteries” which we broadcast to the world and the Las Vegas market. As so often happens we were several years ahead of the market and the company Vegas Webcast.com closed its doors.
Whilst in Malta in 2004 I was grateful to SMASH TV for the opportunity to record a pilot on a new series to promote the Mysteries of Malta’s Archeological sites. This was recorded at the “Cave of Darkness – Ghar Dalam” (http://worldofunexplainedmysteries.com)

New Direction:
I I guess it is not unique to change career directions at the age of 60 but the circumstances are quite unique as is usual in my life! On deciding to retire to my favorite city of Las Vegas in 1992 after a successful tour of Japan as a professional Magician, I was invited to tour the Hilton Hotel’s first venture as Time Share developers at the Las Vegas Flamingo Hotel. This was the original site of Buggy’s secret hideaway. I immediately fell in love with the property and what Hilton had done with the whole timeshare concept..
(I bought my first timeshare property in 1979 at Little Hartley Farm, just outside Sydney, Australia.)
During the Hilton sales presentation I was introduced to the then project director who enquired what I intended to do in my retirement? I replied that I had no plans! He invited me to join Hilton as a member of their sales team. Within 9 months I was their top sales executive and in 1996 won the coveted American Resort Development Associations Sales Award for my work with Hilton. Hilton agreed to my request to set up a marketing operation in Asia, and I proceeded to Hong Kong to establish my company’s Asian operation. In 1997 I accepted an invitation to assume the role of Project Director of one of China’s most beautiful hotels and one of their first timeshare projects. It was 7 months into the project that I discovered signs of a previous Cancer problem that I had experienced in 1988. Not wanting to be caught needing hospitalization in China I accepted an invitation to move to Spain with the Club La Costa Group, one of Europe’s leading timeshare Developers. I enjoyed my year in Spain, after which I spent another year in Ireland however a personal tragedy brought me back to USA in 1999.
I settled in the small town of Mesquite NV. Just 77 miles from Las Vegas and took a position as Director of In-house sales for the Oasis “Grand Destinations” vacation club. With a closing rate of over 47% my team increased in-house tours to over 80% of occupancy. This resort closed its sales line due to problems with the developer and I moved across the road to the Casablanca Casino Resort to develop their ‘exit’ program. After some two and a half years in Mesquite we secured a retail establishment in Las Vegas at the Circus Circus Casino for my son’s glass manufacturing business and I moved back to Las Vegas and joined the Fairfield (Cendent Corp) group. In 2004 I was appointed Director of Public Relations (Exit Program) with the responsibility of setting up an ‘exit line’ at their Dolphins Cove Resort at Disney in Los Angeles. In 2004 I decided again to retire and packed my bags and headed back to the island of Malta that I had not visited since 1960 (over 50 years). My son Robert joined me and today has a successful Glass Blowing business at Popeye Village, Malta’s only theme park. I established my company there and produced one of my World of Unexplained Mysteries TV series for SMASH TV.The Enchanted Forrest is an annual Christmas event that I designed for one of the islands leading charities. I also established a number of photographic programs for the Malta Government’s Heritage sites and the Malta Diary Project for the Furtu Selvatico Boy’s School.Unfortunately Cancer raised its head again in my life and I returned to Las Vegas for an operation on my Thyroid. Vegas once again stole my heart and I decided to remain here.A close friend who had been responsible for much of my success at Hilton invited me to join the Marriott Vacation Club Int. and I was delighted to accept the invitation. Within my first short 4 months I achieved top sales status (VPG) with over $11,000 VPG and today am proud to be part of what is unquestionably the best and most flexible Vacation Ownership program that I have seen. Recent events have led to my transferring for 3 months to beautiful Marbella, on the Costa Del Sol in Spain where I enjoyed 7 months in 1997. You'll find the full story on my 'Mysteries' web site at
Rose is at present visiting her daughter in England and awaiting her divorce. I am now back in my beloved Vegas.
